Are you an addict? You would instantly say no.
Are you a social media addict? Can’t say no, can you?
Social media addiction is a sad reality and this shocking incident is proving the point, more so.
Obdulia Sanchez, an 18-year-old Californian teen, live streamed her car crash and her sister’s death on Instagram instead of calling for help or trying to save her.
Obdulia was taken into custody on Friday on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving drunk. Her car swerved off the road and crashed, north of Los Banos. It toppled over the wire fence and rolled into the field. The accident killed 14-year-old Jacqueline Sanchez, who was expelled out of the car as it crashed. As did another 14-year-old sister, who has injured her leg badly and is hospitalised.
Sanchez and her two sisters were in the car and Obdulia was seen dancing in the video, while the music blared. She took the hands off the wheel to adjust the camera and that’s when she lost control and rammed the vehicle.
It all happened live. But the saddest bit is that instead of calling the Police or someone for help, she kept on streaming the death live. She even panned the camera at her dying sister’s face to show her Instagram followers.
You’ve got to be kidding me. This is infuriating.
In the video, Obdulia frantically said,
According to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office jail records, she is being held on $300,000 bail. Police officials have not confirmed if she was inebriated or was under the influence of any drug. But, some reports suggest she was.
Here’s the video. Since the content is graphic, it has already been censored.

This is another level of callousness and social media addiction. And, it needs to stop very soon.
