Relationships are a wonderful teacher; the reason for that being that we’re at our most vulnerable and honest when we’re in love with someone. When it ends, the pain is unbearable- but it’s just like any other scar that you eventually learn to wear with pride. Relationships are full of life experience.
And here are the things it teaches us when things don’t work out.
1. It makes us understand the importance of communication
No matter where you are, no matter what you do- communicating your feelings is important.
2. Knowing where to draw the line between compromise and sacrifice
There’s a thin line between compromise and sacrifice- and a failed relationship teaches you where the line was drawn, and if you’ve gone beyond it.
3. It teaches you to be more tolerant
Because not everyone expresses love the same way.
4. And gives you a new perspective every time
Every heart break makes you more empathetic and understanding to problems people have in relationships. You just start to understand.
5. It teaches you to take the good things from every relationship, instead of holding on to the bad things
There’s no point in holding on to the bad things. Walk away with the good memories, and you’ll be happier.
6. Relationships are just a fraction of your life, not your entire life
Just like work is a part of your life, not all of it.
7. No one will understand your relationship dynamic better than you and your S.O.
You can take advice from a gazillion people, including your best friend, about your relationship- but at the end of the day, no one can give you the perfect advice because no one knows your relationship better than you. It’s tricky. But it’s true. And you’re in charge of your own life choices.
8. It teaches you to embrace your emotions with pride
The more you discover yourself, the more comfortable you get with accepting your flaws. It helps making the process of finding someone else much easier.
9. It makes you realize how different people can be
There might be a lot of love between you and the one you love, but it doesn’t change the fact that you two probably went different ways because you’re innately different. And you can’t control that.
10. It makes you believe that all good things don’t come easy
Relationships are hard work. Period.
11. You will survive, because you’re strong
Yes, you are.
12. There should be no room for regrets
Because the only person getting affected by this is you.
13. And finally, it brings you closer to knowing who you are
You can spend an ample amount of time trying to analyze who you really are, but the thing is- there is no definite answer. Life is a process of constantly learning about things- including who you are. And it changes with time and experiences.
So, embrace who you are, because you are the best version of yourself at this moment- right now.
