Wife Documented Her Korean Husband’s Story From Being Fat-Shamed To 6 Packs. WHOA!

You have finished gorging on four slices of pizza, washing it down with a large glass of coke, this makes you drowsy and you lay down to sleep. Sleep eludes you because your brain is too busy having an epiphany to suddenly lose weight. Yes, this is the scenario most of us face when we feel that we are getting a little too unhealthy.

But.. does the phrase “Kal se exercise pakka!” sound familiar? The excuse to not leave the bed when it comes to waking up and exercising. Countless hours of watching workout videos, writing #bodygoals and then throwing it all out the window at 6am. Yep, the struggle is real.

However, a 34-year-old Korean man, Hugh Gwon, defeated all of his excuses and resolved to lose weight and I must admit, his weight loss journey is epic! Hugh and his Australian wife, Nichola, are expecting a baby in November for which they had to undergo IVF.

Seeing the difficult process and the pain his wife endured, Hugh thought of losing weight to make the process a little easier on them as he wanted to “share the burden”. This was all the resolve he needed to begin his workout routine spanning over 6 months.

His wife manages an Instagram handle named ‘My Korean Husband‘ and has documented Hugh’s journey in a YouTube video. In the video, Hugh opens up about his childhood bullying when he was called “pig” for being a chubby child.

He says that he had accepted that he will always remain fat and nothing can change that. But he realised that he was not young anymore and he had to find a way to be healthy even if it meant sacrificing drinks and junk food in his social circle.

With the help of his trainer Yoojin Gwon, he started his weight loss journey keeping a goal of being 15 kg lighter at the end of it.

Come snow or rain, Hugh did not surrender to the elements and continued his hard work. Yes, that is snow he is exercising on *shivers*.

Some days were more difficult than others and pursuing his goal was no cake-walk.

Occasionally, the forces would be too tempting and he would relent to them on his cheat days, when his diet would get too much for him to handle.

As time progressed, his stamina grew considerably and changes began to really show on him. He spent long nights in the gym to achieve his ideal body.

You can already see how the weight loss has significantly transformed him, giving him a stronger jaw, and making him look noticeably younger and healthier.

After 6 months of dedication and hard work, Hugh was finally able to see his grinding labour bear fruit when he went from 86 Kg to 66 Kg. He decided to celebrate with a ‘body profile pic’ photoshoot so he can look back on it and smile when he is older.

Can I just say that this man’s dedication has given me major fitness motivation and his humble attitude in contrast to his surreal achievement makes it all the more inspirational?

And as you read this, Hugh is working hard to maintain the lifestyle he chose. If this doesn’t make you get off your couch, nothing will.
