There may be a ‘left’ ‘right’ that divides the nation on ideologies but if there’s anything that binds the pulse of the country, it’s the Army and its brave soldiers. The same soldiers who report at the toughest of situations, the Line of Control and allow us to enjoy our night’s sleep in the comfort of our cosy beds.

However, in an unfortunate tell of tales, the commons have found themselves cringing in grief after a jawan‘s plight, in his own words, has gone viral.

Recently, Tej Bahadur Yadav, a BSF jawan of the 29th battalion of Seema Suraksha Bal in Jammu and Kashmir, posted four videos that show the deplorable condition of the food that is being served to the soldiers.

His post has been shared widely where the jawan can be heard describing the plight and pleading people to share it till it reaches the higher chain of command.

The soldier shared the first video describing the daal and roti that is being served to the battalion after 10 long hours of duty. The video has garnered more than a million views in two days and counting.

“BSF ki yeh dekho daal. sirf haldi, namak aur kuch nahi iske siwaya.”

Tej Bahadur went on to post similar predicaments where the jawans are fed only ‘jale hue parathe‘ and ‘chai‘ for breakfast. He also added that it’s not the government at fault but senior officials  who are “selling off various ingredients in the market, leaving such substandard food for jawans.”

“There are times when we are forced to sleep empty stomach.”

Seeing the kind of support it has got, Minister of Home Affairs in India, Rajnath Singh, took to Twitter to share that immediate measures will be taken after a probe.

Meanwhile, the BSF has also issued an official statement where it has refuted the jawan’s claims. It reads,

“Mentioned BSF Constable who has uploaded his selfie declarations on his Facebook page is posted in a Battalion deployed on Line of Control. In comparison to the International Border deployment, serving conditions are harsh as weather and counterpart both poses difficult challenges. However, ration is authorized to all including Officers at LoC and available in good quality, quantity and in variety,”

After every effort, the soldiers put in, the videos sure send chills down the spine. We hope the administration does a speedy probe and take necessary immediate action and ensure that our jawans are fed well.
