Will I be wrong if I point to the fact that the world we live in is an utterly sexist one where the rules are different for men and women? No, I am not saying everyone is the same. I, truly, believe there are exceptions and some souls do exist who treat both the genders equally. But at large, it is a hypocritical set-up, which is gender-biased and women across the globe are still braving through the patriarchal mindsets.
It is quite strange that our society finds a way to victimise the culprit and shame the victim. If a woman is raped, somehow the blame lands upon her shoulders and not the sick mentality of misogynist beings or the rapist who thought or tried to justify that “she was asking for it”.
The most astounding hypocrisy that our society drips of is how men’s sexuality and women’s sexuality are viewed. While a man embracing his sexuality is completely natural and normal, a woman doing the same is deemed as a slut or a whore. Add cyber-bullying to that equation and things only go downhill from there.
Shared by Gianpaolo Russo, this Twitter thread about an Italian woman, Tiziana Cantone, who was branded as Italy’s Blowjob Girl in a meme is eye-opening. It reflects how one callous move on your part can change someone’s life forever and cyberbullying takes lives.
1. This is Tiziana.

2. But people know her as the meme of a girl who was called the blowjob girl.
Her Name is Tiziana Cantone. She became an incredibly popular meme in Italy. no one knew her name. She was only known as the blowjob girl.

3. You’re filming? Bravo! (Italian: Stai facendo il video? Bravo!)
A video of her giving a guy a blowjob went viral, as she looked up and said: Are you filming me? Good!” This phrase became a popular joke.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
4. Everybody knew her.
It was virtually impossible to meet a person who hadn’t been shown the video and wasn’t in on the joke. Everyone knew Tiziana.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
5. She couldn’t wipe the sex tape off the dark web.
Tiziana couldn’t hide. She changed towns, jobs, and was trying to change her name. However, there was something she couldn’t change.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
6. She couldn’t change each and every thought of each and every person who looked at her.
Those eyes, those lips, that body. Her incredible beauty. The fact that she was every Italian’s man sexual fantasy at the moment.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
7. The only way she thought she could make it all stop was by ending her life.
Tiziana took the only way out she could think of. Tiziana committed suicide in her basement one year ago exactly.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
8. She was branded as a whore by the men of the society.
She was 31 years old. She was a sexual being like all of us, but when men are sexual they’re players, and when women are they’re whores.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
9. It became extremely viral and that virality took someone’s life.
Men could pass the video around without thinking of the consequences because “she was a slut” or “she deserved it”
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
10. Nobody even cared about the impact one share had on Tiziana’s life.
Who bothered to think about the impact on Tiziana’s life? It’s funnier to just bash her for doing something we all enjoy in private.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
11. Embracing one’s sexuality is something to be ashamed of?
Well Tiziana is now dead, and we keep teaching women that if you’re sexual you’re a whore, and that you deserve to be bashed.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
12. Hello, patriarchy and misogyny. ?
Men on the other hand enjoy the benefit of being able to express their sexuality without repercussion.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
13. Things are not different in India, are they?
This is an incredibly true reality in Italy especially. We don’t teach sex ed to kids. The church teaches us about the intimacy of marriage
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
14. Why are women viewed as the lesser gender? Just, why?
We don’t learn to value women. We learn that men dominate, and women bear our children. We learn that god wants us to wait.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
15. But, who gave them the right? That authority?
We learn that we as men get to get away with things like this solely on the base of being men.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
16. Such cruelty, much wow! (P.S find sarcasm there).
Meanwhile Tiziana Cantone lies dead. Her parents without a child. A man lives without punishment, and so do thousands of others who laughed.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
17. Because one casual dig pf yours could have the power to shatter someone’s world.
“Just a meme,” “just a joke,” or “It’s just for laughs.” Think about it next time. Who are you hurting? How much are you hurting them?
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 14, 2017
18. The reason, this guy shared Tiziana’s story, is because he deeply cares.
I care a lot about her story, and I want to keep her memory alive.
— Gianpi™?? (@ItaIianTwink) September 16, 2017
This is eye-opening and before you brand someone as a slut or a whore or share anyone’s intimate pic online or contribute to cyberbullying in any way, THINK TWICE!
