Abducted By ISIS For 18 Months, India Rescues ALL 6 Indians From Libya, Tweets Sushma Swaraj

Hostage situations are very tricky. And the negotiations are not as heroic as they portray in the movies. One small mistake and the kidnappers will kill the hostage. There is no margin of error, and usually, a lot of money is involved.

8 Indian citizens working in Libya were kidnapped when ISIS (Islamic State) terrorists attacked a hospital in the city of Sirte. Among the kidnapped were 7 Filipino nurses too.

They were kidnapped on September 8, 2015.

ISIS is very infamous for its brutality. They torture, rape and pillage everything in their way. Hostages are usually beheaded without a second thought.

In September 2016, India managed to free two of the captives from the kidnappers with the help of Azhar A.H. Khan, the Ambassador to Libya.

That left four hostages still in ISIS hands. The families of the hostages were praying for their release.

“When we heard of the release of Indians by IS, we expected my father to be among them. But, we are sad that he is still under captivity”

With 18 months gone by, one would expect the Indian government to give up or at least be less enthusiastic in the negotiations.

But no, India brought all of them home.

It was just yesterday that Sushma Swaraj tweeted with the good news that ALL the 6 hostages that were kidnapped have been rescued!

This is an incredible job by our government and our Ministry of External Affairs.

It will make Indians abroad feel safer, bearing in mind that their Government will never give up on them, even if they are in clutches of the ISIS!
