After Remaining Unsold At The IPL Auction, Irfan Pathan Writes A Powerful Message For Fans

The player auction for season 10 of the multi-million dollar cricketing extravaganza, aka the ‘IPL’ took place at Bengaluru on Monday. While players like Ben Stokes and Tymal Mills stole the show by bagging big money, Indian players like Siraj Mohammad, who were otherwise unknown to the world, came into limelight by getting selected in their dream teams.

On the flip side of the coin, veteran players like Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma and Imran Tahir saw no takers as they went unsold in the auction.

After remaining unsold in the IPL Season 10 auction on Monday, Irfan Pathan took to Twitter to share a heartfelt and powerful message with his fans.

The message reads:

“In 2010, I had undergone 5 fractures in my back. The physio had told to me that I might now be able to play cricket ever again and should rather give up on my dream. At that point of time, I told him, I can bear any pain but cannot the bear the pain of not playing this beautiful game for my country. I worked hard and not only played cricket again but made a comeback to the India team. I have faced many obstacles in my career and life but never gave up, that’s the character I have and will possess.”

A seasoned all-rounder, Irfan has played over 100 matches in the first nine seasons of the IPL for Delhi, Punjab, Hyderabad and Pune.

Irfan missed most of the last domestic season due to injuries but had a good run in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With a considerably low base price (₹ 50 lakhs), it is a mystery that he didn’t get picked.

Being a 90s kid and an ardent fan of the Indian cricket team, I have grown up seeing Irfan Pathan thrash the opponent teams by his destructive swing bowling. It is really disheartening to see a player of his potential not being picked in any team, but I am hopeful that he will fight through all this and will come out stronger, not just by being picked in one of the franchise teams, but by being a part of the ‘men in blue’ again.

And I’ll be waiting for that day.
