Indore, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, is achieving one milestone after another. After being deemed as the cleanest city by the Swachh Survekshan-2017, the Poha capital (Indori Poha is bae) has beaten all odds and has become India’s first city to install a life-size robot to curb and control traffic congestion!
That’s right, the traffic police in association with a private engineering college of the city, for the first time, has installed a 14-ft metallic robot at a busy MR 9 intersection to monitor unruly traffic.
Designed and manufactured by Rahul Tiwari and Aniruddh Sharma, two professors of Shri Venkteshwar Institute of Technology, the robot is a sight to behold. It reportedly took 2 years and Rs. 15 lakhs to complete the project.
Indore range DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra said the experiment has been quite successful in controlling traffic, in an otherwise chock-a-block street. In fact, VK Agnihotri, former inspector general of police said,Â
“The concept is good. It would make the process error-free, besides it would also ensure issuance of challans to those who violate traffic norms.”
Needless to say, the spot saw high influx as passers-by were seen stopping by the square to catch a glimpse of the Robocop.
However, the step has also garnered a fair share of mixed reactions by the public who deem it as a waste of money. Nandini Sunder, a resident said,Â
Watch the Robocop in action in this video by PATRIKA MADHYA PRADESH, here.Â
All this in a hope that soon other administrations will also follow suit and technology will be put to good use. Until then, kudos Indore!
