It is no secret that India is home to the richest of the rich. Their yearly income is probably more than many people’s lifelong income. Forbes has come out with ‘Asia’s Richest Families‘ list and out of 50 families, 18 spots have been taken by Indians.

We bring to you a break down of the richest families in India.

1. Ambani Family

I think this is the first name that comes to all our minds when we think ‘rich’. With a net worth of $44.8 B, they are one of the richest families in the world. With Reliance Industry Ltd. soaring, the family’s worth upped by $19 billion from the previous year.

2. Premji Family

With a net worth of $19.2 B, the Premji family has backed the 11th spot on the list. The Wipro family started from making cooking oil but it was the expansion into software that bought family riches. Today it is India’s third-largest technology outsourcer.

3. Hinduja Family

They are a family of four close-knit siblings- Srichand (London), Gopichand (London), Prakash (Geneva) and Ashok (India) who own a multinational conglomerate, the Hinduja Group. They specialise in varied things from trucks and lubricants to banking and cable and their net worth is $18.8 B.

4. Mittal Family

Lakshmi Mittal is an Indian steel magnate based in the UK, and the CEO of ArcelorMittal. With a net worth of $17.2 B, they have backed the 14th position on the list. His daughter’s wedding was the second most expensive in recorded history.

5. Mistry Family

Sharpoorji Pallonji Group started by the Mistry family has been a construction giant in India and has now expanded to the Gulf regions (they built the palace of the Sultan of Oman)as well. It is 152-year-old company and the family’s net worth is $16.1 B.

6. Birla Family

With a net worth of $14.1 B, the Birla family from the Aditya Birla group own a commodity empire in the country. With interests spanning from cement, aluminum, telecom and financial services.

7. Godrej Family

Owning a consumer goods empire in the country the Godrej family has a net worth of $14 B. The Godrej group specialises in sectors as diverse as real estate, consumer products, industrial engineering, appliances, furniture, security and agricultural products.

The other families who have made it to the list are the Bajaj family, Jindal family, Burman family, Lal family, Bangur family, Sehgal family, Wadia family, Kushpal Singh family, Patel family, Parimal family and Munjal family.
