Legal documents in the United States only recognize ‘male’ and ‘female’ as genders and not any other gender.
Shivy, 19, who was born female as Shivani Bhatt, but identifies as male, is technically an Indian citizen – but has been living in the USA for 15 years. Recently his parents sent him to Agra for his annual holiday to ‘fix’ him after they found out that he had a girlfriend back in the US.
Transgender activists and the support group Nazariya released a short video where he is seen talking on how his parents used force to make him ‘behave like a proper girl’.
Even the Delhi High Court termed the alleged harassment as nothing short of ‘bigotry’ and has granted him police protection.
Why couldn’t his parents accept him the way he is?
