Marriages in India, especially the arranged marriages, a supposedly holy institution, “pre-pair” people for the future. So holy, that for most of the men, their wives are an asset and they can do whatever they want (read: marital rape).

Apparently, a woman should continue to try and make her marriage work even while her husband continues exploiting her because Marriage certificate = free pass, OH DEAR!. Well, if your husband forces himself on you, it’s his natural need and your “duty” according to Indian Penal Code, Section 375.
