This Ex IIT Student Recorded The Epic Indo-Pak Air Force Fight In The War Of 1965

The Indo-Pakistan War of 1965 took place between April 1965 and September 1965 following Pakistani’s operation Gibraltar. The operation was designed to send Pakistani forces into Jammu & Kashmir to participate in insurgency against rule by India. India retaliated the operation by launching a full scale military attack and the war lasted for 17 days. This was the largest tank battle since World War II.

On 7th September 1965, an F-86 Sabre of the Pakistan Air Force was intercepted and shot down by the Indian Air Force near Kalaikunda air base. The Pakistani pilot was Flg. Offr. Afzal Khan and the Indian Air Force pilot was Flt. Lt. Alfred Cooke. The dogfight was seen by dozens of people on the ground.
