Maneka Gandhi Slams The Swedes Who Didn’t Want To Come To India Because They’d Get Raped

The Nirbhaya incident shook the entire nation. It also shook up the shackles of the society that existed alongside obsolete and decade(s)-long laws for rape and abuse.

It goes without a mention that the media played and contributed a major part in this collective awareness. Sure, there were networks that didn’t shy away from playing the TRP game but there were houses that had taken it too personally to let go.

“I went to Sweden two years ago when because of Nirbhaya incident, cases were being reported everyday. Someone said to me that no one wanted to travel to India.”

The minister also happened to mention the statistics that say otherwise, where India ranks among the lowest four countries in the world in terms of rape cases.

“I actually took a look at a table. In the world, we are among the lowest four countries in the area of rape. Sweden is number one.

“I Said in your country it is not reported in the newspapers. Whereas we have zero tolerance (towards rape) and our newspapers will write about it everyday.”

And no, it is not a competition nor is it denying that India, like any other country in the world, still has a long way to go before rape is no more a problem but don’t you think its time we fight the title of the ‘rape capital’ of the world ?! That it’s time we acknowledge the ‘haves’ instead of ‘have nots’? Lend a helping hand, maybe?!
