This Hungarian Woman Is Cleaning Mumbai’s Beaches And We All Can Learn A Lesson From Her

Geographically speaking, India is a blessed nation. From mountains kissing the skies, deserts spanning for miles, rainforests and wetlands filled with unseen flora and fauna and beautiful beaches, nature has bestowed us with a diverse and surreal terrain.

But sadly, us humans have taken every possible step to ruin this beautiful bounty and turn these tourist hotspots into garbage dumps, especially the beaches. From Gujarat to West Bengal, most of the beaches in India are covered in filth.

While most of us either contribute to the garbage or have made our peace with it, one woman is driving the change.

Zsuzsanna Ferrao, a Hungarian woman living in Vasai has taken it upon herself to clean up the coastal areas of Mumbai and nearby regions. Distressed with the dismal condition of the ‘Rangaon beach’, Ferraro has been cleaning the litter every Sunday since the last four weeks with her family.

Ferrao, who is married to Lisbon, an Indian national, has been living in Vasai since the last four years. Speaking of the inspiration behind the noble cause, she said,

“My country doesn’t have beaches but it has many rivers and lakes which are generally clean. I consider India as my own country and believe that we should make every effort to keep it clean.”

Adding his thoughts on the matter, Lisbon made a thought-provoking statement that will make you ponder hard on your priorities.

“The efforts of one person alone are never enough. It will take at least a few thousand people to clean only this beach.Naturally, more people need to contribute. Singing the national anthem in theatres is not enough. We must show our love for the country through our actions.”

As renowned author Robert Swan once said, “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

It is high time that we Indians stop blaming the government for not doing their bit and start caring for our motherland ourselves.
