20 High-School Movies That Will Send You On A Nostalgia Trip

Recently I picked up my high school Slambook and It was like I was looking into someone else’s life. This person who was described as this whole other person, a person who laughed at really lame jokes, who wore very questionable combinations of clothes, but most importantly, this person who was so damn happy.

Not a worry in the world apart from getting the wrong text book to class, no tears shed over tragedies: just sobs because of lame punishments. It was a great time and sometimes I just want to feel what it’s like again. You know how I do that? Movies.

Here’s a list of every single movie that will transport you to the simpler times of bathroom breaks, class mischief and innocent crushes. It’s a list you want to keep around for nostalgic purposes.

1. Mean Girls

We all had those girls in school. There were always a bunch of girls who’d be worshipped and idolized because of their personalities, beautiful features or plain smarts. The ones we’d bitch about, the ones we’d try to befriend and the ones who intimidated us, the mean girls.

2. The Breakfast Club

It’s the whole mix of people who were your classmates. A reject, the rich and famous, the hot boy, the rebel and the brainiac, and all of them together make for everyday recess.

3. Dead Poets’ Society

This one’s a gem. It’s really inspirational and somehow it made me think a lot about high school. It wasn’t necessarily the same as ours, but it sure made me wonder how different one person’s high school experience can be from the other’s.

4. Perks Of Being A Wallflower

In it’s own way, it teaches you an important lesson about friendship and love through Charlie. It’s a rollercoaster ride and let’s just say it ends at a beautiful turn.

5. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

It’s the most inspiring high school movie ever. A bunch of school students skip class and explore the world around them. It’s really refreshing and quite enlightening, makes me wish I’d done that too.

6. Clueless

Okay it maybe a little bit ditzy but it’s got a cult following for sure. You can’t help but fall in love with Cher and sometimes I think of all those times I could have been Cher but instead chose to be Tai.

7. Juno

Who doesn’t love Juno? I mean it’s gotta be a crime! She’s so damn ballsy for a 16 year old, it frightens me. It shows a side of high school you’d never want to see but unfortunately we all do. You remember the times when you said the wrong thing in class and people stared at you, when people judged you for one thing or another? This is just like that but more intense.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

‘It was the best of times and the worst of times’. I’m pretty sure Charles Dickens was referring to high school. This coming of age movie is pretty accurate on the romance bit.

9. Easy A

This would probably have been an abomination in our school days but it sort of applies now. For every small thing that you do you’re labeled and those labels stick for 15 years of your life. So when Olive takes a stand and labels herself, it’s her way of taking control and I think it’s exactly what high school was about.

10. John Tucker Must Die

This one’s plain entertaining. I mean these girls are so occupied, they remind me of a group of people I knew in high school. Though I’d termed them boycrazy, it shows the kind of friendships that evolves in school and here’s where you make the best of friends with the strangest people.

11. Sixteen Candles

It’s a beautiful movie and it has a really good cast. It focuses on typical teenage issues and it’s quite entertaining. Also it’s one of those classics you have to watch in order to judge the newer wave of high school drama.

12. The Perfect Score

Their SATS and our boards are like the end of all life. Three Idiots had covered a similar concept, where they go to steal the board papers so they can pass with better marks. It’s like that, but only it’s not engineering. Also, it’s got Scarlett Johansson instead of Kareena and I think I prefer it that way.

13. Student Of The Year

Okay I have to admit, this one is like my guilty pleasure. It’s so entertaining, it might not be very deep or meaningful but it’s nailed the competition we felt during high school, the same one our parents didn’t experience. If you’re not interested in the rat race, watch it for Siddharth Malhotra.

14. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

This classic is like my go-to movie. It’s so damn brilliant that I can keep watching it over and over again. The struggle, the innocence and the fun is so overwhelming, it always makes me nostalgic for the better days.

15. Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar

It’s so adorable and one of the nicest Bollywood takes on high school. If you’re in the mood to reminisce your high school romance, watch this one for sure.

16. Mohabbatein

This is drama beyond recognition, but it revolves around a boarding school. I know imagining Uday Chopra as a student is kind of difficult, but the hostel romance, restrictions, rules and little joys of prom are spot on.

17. Always Kabhi Kabhi

It’s pretty nice and worth a watch. It’s got the cheekiness of a high school drama and some real interesting character depictions that you might recognize from your own high school.

18. Rockford

It’s the best high school movie in Bollywood, hands down. It’s a 1999 flick and it’s available on Youtube. This movie is about a boy staying in boarding school, adjusting with his new life and making memories for a lifetime, just like us.

19. Gippi

It’s the perfect movie to curl up with. All the insecurity, the carefree attitude and all the feelings made into one impactful movie. It’s an amazing watch and it’ll definitely give you some food for thought.

20. Not Another Teen Movie

It’s hilarious AF. It’s like a parody of all the high school movies and it’s spot on, so after you’re done watching every single on of them, turn this one on and switch off from everything else.

Which one are you going to start with? Hurry! Before you’ve to get back to your homework.
