Here’s How You Can Always Look Fab Even If You’re Pregnant, Thin, Curvy Or Whatever Shape.

You remember that black dress just hangs from your cupboard, like a haunted dream?

You know the one. It’s too tight but it entices you with it’s thin waistline, it’s body hugging lure and it’s long slits. It promises a future you: so beautiful, so perfect, someone who perfectly fits into society’s bracket of beautiful.

Or maybe, you remember that snide shopkeeper who sneered at you when you picked up a size 16 dress and immediately went to tell his friend, as if your size was as rare as a dragon egg. The same guy who looked you up and down as though you were despicable and turned you away, assuring you that your body doesn’t deserve these beautiful dresses.

So, that dress that hangs there? It’s not a dress, it’s a social expectation you are hanging onto.

Let it go. That dress, that shopkeeper or the whole clothing industry doesn’t define or have the right to tell you how much you should weigh, how curvy or tall you should be, what shade is wrong for your complexion or how insecure, measly and ugly you should feel for not fitting into their narrow-minded bracket.

No, just stop. They don’t own you. The society doesn’t define you.

You define you.

So buy yourself a black dress that loves those curves as much as you. Choose the blues, yellows and whites, because your colour has nothing to do with your personality. Pick stripes or aztec, based on your choice, not your body type.

No need to wait for a happy occasion or a weight loss to shop. You just have to let yourself be happy in your own skin and the shopping sprees will come naturally.

I bet I can give you 5 better reasons to shop than any of this other crap.

1. When you’re expecting a kid.

Pregnancy shouldn’t stop you from being awesome. You don’t need a Diwali or a Christmas to shop, you need a trimester. You need to look amazeballs for your kid, even if he can’t see you, he can feel your fashion sense! Even if you’re in your third trimester, it doesn’t stop you from being a fashion goddess.

2. Just because you feel like working out.

You need a favourite pair of tracks to be able to hit the gym or get the motivation to go to zumba class. It’s all a part of making your workout regime. Like I’d always buy myself cute shorts or track pants with loose T-shirts, even if it was for a run down the street! Because hello, I want to look fab even when I’m doing zumba with the ladies.

3. When you want to feel great at work.

You don’t need a big meeting or a presentation to dress up for work. If you want to feel confident and dressing the part helps you, then march on and get yourself a stellar outfit. Because if you feel fabulous, you’ll be fabulous.

4. When you want to fight those awkward teenage years with some amazing fashion.

If puberty has come knocking at your door, don’t turn it away with a few awkward glances. Embrace it. Accept it like you mean it. Get clothes that fit you better, get colours that make you shine bright and patterns that are more intricate than those pimples.

5. When you want to look your best for yourself and no one else.
