People spend their lives mastering a skill to make it into a world record-deserving feat. But there are others who achieve world records by just being born, literally. The conditions surrounding their birth are so unique, that they go straight to the record books. Example in point is the recently born heaviest baby girl in India.
A woman in Karnataka gave birth to a baby girl on the 23rd of May, and she weighed 15 lbs or 6.8 kg at the time of birth. She was delivered by C-section to Nandini, who’s just 19 years old.
Commenting on the fact that the average weight of a baby is 7.5 lbs, Dr, Venkatesh Raju, the local health officer, said, “In my 25 years of experience, I had never seen such a big baby. She is a miracle. I believe she is not only the heaviest baby born in India but the heaviest baby girl ever born in the world. I had personally gone to see her. She is a beautiful gift of God. I am happy that she is doing well.”
Nandini also weighs 94 kg and is 5’9″ tall, but she doesn’t suffer from high sugar levels or diabetes, which is the primary reason for overweight babies to be born.
Dr. Poornima Manu, who delivered the healthy baby girl, said the following:
Nandini’s daughter is the heaviest baby girl ever born in India, a new Indian record.
Although the record books are divided on her being the heaviest baby girl in the world, her bagging the Indian record is guaranteed. The heaviest baby girl in the world recorded by Guinness was giantess Anna Haining Bates, who weighed around 18 lbs or 8.2 kg at birth, in 1846. Funnily, even her son was the heaviest baby to have ever been born, weighing in at 22 lbs or almost 10kg.
The baby girl is healthy and is in the neonatal intensive care unit for further observations until discharge.
