Are you laughing already? Wait for the full story, guys. It so happened that on Saturday, Delhi High Court came with a life-altering verdict while defining a chappal and a sandal. It was a crucial one because it helps in determining customs drawbacks (a refund on duty paid by manufacturers who deal in exports). On sandals, the custom duty drawback is 10% and on chappals it is 5%.
Chennai-based footwear manufacturer, Wishall International, challenged the Centre’s position that a woman’s footwear without a back strap is a chappal and not a sandal. They claimed their products were sandals and not chappals to avail a 10% drawback.
The case was filed back in 2003 and the conflict reached Delhi High Court after judgements from Council of Leather Exports and Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI). Finally, it reached the verdict that women footwear without a strap are sandals and not chappals.
But, Twitterati often doesn’t bother to read the full news and forms opinions based on headlines only. When ‘The Hindu’ tweeted the piece of news, people came up with funny reactions based on their aloofness of the whole matter.

Well, we do enjoy a few laughs but it’s always better to crack jokes after knowing the subject well. Classic case of ignorant trolling!
