The implementation of GST has been met with a lot of mixed reactions from the people while they were trying to understand how the new tax system would work and calculating how the prices of commodities will change.
While the stage of GST implementation is not developed completely, it gathered a lot of backlash for the rising prices of certain commodities. In these developments, another criticism of the implementation of GST surfaced in a scene in Tamil actor Vijay’s movie ‘Mersal’.
In the particular scene in ‘Mersal’, the actor, Vijay, heavily criticises the Indian government tax system and questions why they cannot provide free medical services when the citizens are paying so much tax.
He also holds the government responsible for the death of the children in Gorakhpur due to the lack of oxygen, and says that people are afraid of government hospitals more.
The scene went viral on social media and received a lot of praise from fans but the criticism did not sit well with Tamil Nadu BJP’s president Tamilisai Soundrajan.
As reported by India, she objected to the scenes and demanded that the movie should be censored. She also slammed Vijay and director, Atlee, for spreading ‘factually incorrect’ information. You can watch the complete scene here.

But Twitterati and celebrities were quick to jump to the defence of the film and criticise the BJP for demanding cuts on an already certified film.

It seems the government has shot itself in the foot by creating hue and cry over this issue. Only time will tell who’ll have the last laugh. But as of now, the producers of the movie are laughing their way to the bank, as ticket bookings have soared amidst the controversy. What’s your opinion on the whole issue?
