You see, in their village, among the 500 resident, 225 are women and girls. The lack of water and proper infrastructure has made sanitation a major issue in their village. Women often have to attend nature’s calls in unsanitary places. The situation is even worse in Monsoons and winters.

This elder brother was worried for his 13-year-old sister, Rani, who lives with his uncle. He wanted to ensure that she has proper sanitation facility near their home. So he bought the equipment and made the toilet 600 m from a well so that the water can be drawn. He had to spend additional Rs 20,000 in the process.

Installed with a shiny washbasin in front of it, the toilet has become a symbol of care in the village. The villagers are proud of Mahendra and are planning to follow his path and construct toilets in their house.
