George Clooney Gifted 14 Pals $1M Each Because They Were There For Him When He Had Nothing

Often when climbing the ladder to success, people tend to leave behind the ones who helped them take the next step. It’s not always intentional, sometimes it’s just how life takes the course. But not all of them forget those who were there for them when noone else was and George Clooney is one of them.

The Oceans Eleven star and the Oscar-winning actor is immeasurably generous and now we have proof of it.

Gerber revealed on the show that Clooney once gave $1 million to 14 of his closest friends as a way to give back to them for being there for him. As reported by The Daily Beast, he narrated the incident on Headliner’s saying,

There’s a group of guys we call ‘The Boys’. George had called me and ‘The Boys’ and said, ‘Hey, mark September 27th, 2013, on your calendar. Everyone’s going to come to my house for dinner.’

Sitting in front of each of us at the table is a black Tumi bag, you know, luggage, George begins to say, ‘Listen, I want you guys to know how much you’ve meant to me, and how much you mean to me in my life. I came to L.A., I slept on your couch. I’m so fortunate in my life to have all of you, and I couldn’t be where I am today without all of you. So, it was really important to me that, while we’re still all here together, that I give back.'”

According to Gerber, when they opened the suitcases, there were $1 million dollars stashed in $20 bills in each of the suitcases. The Boys were shocked and Rande even refused to take the money from him. Clooney announced that if Rande doesn’t accept it, no one else gets it. He further said to them,

“I know we’ve all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don’t have to worry about your kids; you don’t have to worry about school; you don’t have to worry about paying your mortgage.”

Moreover, Rande even tried to repay the actor the whole amount, but he refused to take any of it. Gerber said,

“This is who George is. That was September 27th, 2013. Now September 27, 2014, he marries Amal. That’s good karma right there.”

Since Gerber himself had his own family fortune, he did not want to accept Clooney’s gift. But he recalled that not all of The Boys were in a good situation. Like one of them was working at a bar in Texas airport and would ride the bicycle to work every day. So he accepted the gift but donated the entire fund to charity.

It’s always good to have friends who support you; it’s even better to have friends (like George Clooney) who remember you even when they’re on top of the ladder. I’m misty eyed now, gosh!
