For The First Time, A Short Film By An FTII Student Gets Selected To Cannes. Very Proud!

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune is known as a premier film institute of the country. We have had many talented alumni from this place like Jaya Bachchan, Om Puri, Smita Patil, Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Rajkumar Hirani,  and the list will go on!

The new generation of the institute is also making its mark in the film industry and we are nothing but proud of that fact!

‘Afternoon Clouds’, a short film by Payal Kapadia, a 3rd-year student has been selected for the 70th edition of Cannes Film Festival. This is the first time that FTII had sent an entry to the film festival and it got selected too.

The film is about the perception of relationships and love by two women of different ages and completely different background. This is quite a film.”

Bhupendra Kainthola, director of FTII is very proud of this feat and expressed his happiness by saying,

This is not it, four of the 16 short films that are chosen are from India. Isn’t that absolutely brilliant? Looks like, the next generation of Indian filmmakers is all ready to create its niche in the international film industry.
