5-Year-Old Girl Who Got Her Period When She Was Only 4, Is Now Going Through Menopause

What would you give to be a child again? To frolic without a care in the world and see the world through an innocent and unbiased perspective? Childhood is the most beautiful time in anybody’s life. As we grow older, the weights of the world weigh heavy on us and we remember the carefree time we had as a child.

But, a five-year-old in Australia isn’t so lucky like you and me. Emily Dover is from New South Wales, Australia, and got her period when she was four-years-old. The girl is experiencing an early onset of puberty and is now experiencing symptoms of menopause.

The child grew rapidly just one week after her birth and at just four-months-old was the size of a one-year-old baby. At two years old, Emily began to develop breasts and cystic acne along with body odour and pubic hair.

As reported by Independent, after a year of tests and analysis Emily was diagnosed with Addison’s disease at the age of four. Addison’s disease is a rare disorder of the adrenal glands, it means that Dover’s body is deficit in cortisol and aldosterone.

Although, the disease typically affects adults above the age of 30, it can trigger early onset puberty in children. Emily also suffers from anxiety disorder and is on the autism spectrum because of this disease.

Little Emily is extremely body conscious and understands that she is different from her classmates. She is overweight due to the disease and is bullied by her classmates.

Her mother is trying to raise funds to afford the expensive hormone therapy for Emily which will throw her into menopause.

It is unfortunate that a five-year-old who doesn’t even understand what’s happening to her has to undergo such conditions in her life when she should be roaming carefree and enjoying childhood. We wish Emily a speedy recovery and hope that she and her parents find enough strength to deal with this unfortunate situation.
