13 Performances Of Michael Fassbender That Show His Brilliance As An Actor

The German-Irish actor is most popular for his role as a young Magneto, the man who can control metals in the X-Men series and has won all of our hearts by his brilliant performance as Erik, the man who has come to hate humans because of a long-standing resentment due to the Nazi reign he has seen over Germany.

Although it’s his most known role I guess, he has been portraying some amazing characters in his long career and we should make it a point to take note of them.

Here are a few.

1. Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs)

Fassbender put in his all for this movie which didn’t do too well at the box office but showed us the glimpse of Fassy’s brilliant method acting which almost made us feel like we’re actually watching Steve Jobs on the screen.

2. Edwin Epps (12 Years A Slave)

The man who didn’t know what he was doing and thought that being harsher on the people he had for slaves in those times in America made him a better Christian, Fassbender made us hate him to the core and that’s probably where he won as an actor.

3. Conner O’Reily (Fish Tank)

A charmer who is dating the mother of a 15-year-old girl who is attracted to him, this coming of age movie is actually about the girl but this movie becomes gradually about the man who becomes her love interest and the movie is a perfect example of the delicate ways relationships blossom and break.

4. Bobby Sands (Hunger)

This period film about the national unrest in Ireland really brings out the performer in him as he physically challenged himself for this role. He was as convincing by his bodily presence as by his acting.

5. Lt. Archie Hicox (Inglourious Bastards)

Oh, Tarantino. The best part about Quentin Tarantino movies is the impeccable cast and the patchy story which shifts focus drastically catching us by surprise and leaves us in awe. The portrayal of Archie Hicox by Fassy has been one of the highlights in the completely bonkers movie, especially the pub scene. You cannot but fall in love with the man!

6. Lord Macbeth (Macbeth)

The classic retelling of the story of a macabre family of Lord Macbeth takes up a higher interest level in our minds when Macbeth is played by Fassbender. He brilliantly portrayed the storm going on in his character’s mind with utmost honesty.

7. Frank (Frank)

This Indie style film about a band whose lead singer never shows his face is kind of a blow to Fassy fans as you never get to his face even once in the entire stretch of the movie! It’s a brilliant movie which kind of makes us aware of the fact that acting is much more than just a pretty face.

8. Edward Rochester (Jane Eyre)

Oh, Edward! The brilliant classic came to life with this movie and Fassbender fit the bill perfectly for the valiant yet scared man when it came to the matters of the heart.

9. Carl Jung (A Dangerous Method)

A dangerous method is a movie about the Swiss psychological master Carl Jung’s studies of human behavior and his teacher Sigmund Freud pushing him towards an experiment which could lead to a dangerous end and Michael Fassbender rendered the role with a brilliant understanding of what might be going on in Jung’s mind.

The story revolves around a sex addict’s life and Fassbender paired with the talented director Steve McQueen are a miracle on screen especially when it comes to a taboo topic as this.

11. Stelios (300)

The valiant soldier who followed Leonidas in the war against Persia with only 299 men as his companions against the thousands of Persians is a delight and an inspiration to watch. You cannot help but cry when Stelios dies.

12. David (Prometheus)

Most people are not big fans of the movie, and it might be one of the finest works of Ridley Scott but there is no doubt in anybody’s mind that it’s one of Fassbender’s best performances as a human android looking for the start of the human race.

13. Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto (X-Men : First Class and X-Men : Days Of Future Past)

Yes, obviously. Fassbender as young Erik is just delicious and amazingly perfect for the role as the role required some depth and pain which only Fassbender could have lent in the movie.
