While diplomacy is the route many B-Towners opt for, there are a handful of celebrities who don’t shy away from calling a spade a spade. And, TBH, they are our favourites. When it comes to taking a stand on a social issue or speaking their mind, few celeb names crop up in our heads and one of them is Farhan Akhtar.
Long before he came up with the ‘Mard’ campaign, Farhan’s quintessential side and vocal stand about issues had caught the public eye. Remember his open letter to his daughter or how he voiced his opinions against the beef ban?
And, when it comes to micro-blogging, his tweets stand testimonial to the fact that he’s not afraid to speak up.
Wondering how? Well, sample these.
1. When the viral footage of CRPF Jawans being attacked by young pro-Jihadi Kashmiris went viral, he lauded for the Jawans’ restraint.
The footage of our soldiers being slapped and heckled is sickening.. their restraint admirable. Action must be taken immediately.

2. When gossip-mongers and grapevine had conjectured foulness between Aditya Roy Kapur and him over Shraddha Kapoor, he put all rumours to rest.
And that, as they say, is that.. RIP rumours. #lastnight #chilltimes pic.twitter.com/TlTGYtWYwY

3. When ‘Gau Rakshaks’ assaulted Muslim men, here’s what he had to say.
The brutal tale of a 100 cow(ards) unfolds as expected when moral authority is granted to those who can't handle authority, nor have morals. https://t.co/wULU6PkDt4

4. When he said goodbye to cheap lyrics, the right way.
Songs that use lewd lyrics are #NotMusicToMyEars and I commit to making sure they're not part of the movies I make.
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) March 30, 2017
5. When he painted a clearer picture about our rights.
If we do not deliver justice to the Nigerians who were viciously attacked, we lose the right to demand it when Indians are targeted abroad.
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) March 29, 2017
6. When he took a dig at CBFC’s reasons for denial of Lipstick Under My Burkha‘s release.
Below is the reason CBFC listed for denying #LipstickUnderMyBurkha a release. Keep your barf bag ready.. pic.twitter.com/NFO42sRJIb

7. When he rightly pointed out that deforestation and Urban Development should never go hand in hand.
Urban development should include creating more green spaces, not getting rid of existing ones. #SaveAarey #SaveMumbai
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) February 19, 2017
8. When he condemned this being a part of Indian Education system.
This. Is. Just. Unbelievable.
From a Class IV textbook on Environmental Studies. Anyone responsible for this reaching the kids desks? pic.twitter.com/NJ2FWkwO0O— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) February 9, 2017
9. Â When he stood by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s side, like a rock.
My fellow film folk, if we do not unite now against these recurring incidents of bullying, it's going to get much worse. #IstandbySLB
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) January 27, 2017
If u don't like what he's making, don't watch his film. What's with the violence?? Apart from a vulgar display of self righteousness..
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) January 27, 2017
I'm waiting to see how many people are punished for what they've done to #SanjayLeelaBhansali & his crew. There's enough evidence.
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) January 27, 2017
10. When the Bengaluru molestation case shook everyone to the core, he spoke out and deemed it as terrorism.
This is not molestation. It's gender terrorism.. empowered by the misogynistic mentality of powers-that-be. #wakeuphttps://t.co/lMImPbqejA
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) January 4, 2017
11. When the video of Jawan exposing the quality of food was doing rounds, he expressed concern about the jawan’s villification. (P.S. The jawan has been sacked by The Army.)
Please let's address this issue immediately.. without politicising it and without villifying this jawan for speaking up. https://t.co/8q4imWhvoo
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) January 10, 2017
12. When the year began with the horrifying news of Bengaluru mass molestation and he inveighed against the act.
Women should not dress like westerners b'coz men dressed like westerners are molesters, says the man in the shirt.#oxy(deprived)morons
— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) January 3, 2017
Plus, Farhan’s got his wit in place and sarcasm on point.
