Say Hi To ‘Fake Meat’ Made From Plants. Even Bill Gates Couldn’t Tell The Difference!

For non-vegetarian lovers, eating meat could be a thing of the past, thanks to the fake meat concept created by Ethan Brown. That’s right!

Meet Ethan Brown, Founder and CEO of a startup, Beyond Meat, that intends to manufacture fake meat by using a patented technology and plant products. So, basically, it eliminates the slaughtering of animals.

He has been working on this concept for many years.

But, why avoid meat?

1. He says that it requires huge efforts and resources to get meat.

“Raising livestock is an incredibly inefficient way of producing protein. It takes a lot of land, a lot of energy, and a lot of water just to generate one pound of meat from an animal. About 30% of the animal is meat we eat; the rest is not useful.”

2. By manufacturing meat, we can solve these four problems- climate change, animal welfare, natural resources, and human health.

3. Also, many people are not happy with the way the animals are slaughtered.

 

So, how did he work on it?

He figured out that meat is nothing but the combination of amino acids, fats, carbohydrates, trace minerals and water. So he took the same inputs from plants and combined them to match the taste, texture, and nutrition of meat! (How cool is that?!).

It has 100% plant protein.

While the company’s main plant is located in Missouri, it’s headquartered in El Segundo, California.

 

This maverick product caught the attention of Bill Gates and the Twitter founders. Bill Gates remarked that this is the future of food.

Bill Gates has written a blog post describing his experience of eating chicken taco made with plant-based meat from Beyond Meat.

This is what he said,

Like most people, I don’t think I can be easily fooled. But that’s just what happened when I was asked to taste a chicken taco and tell whether the meat inside was real or fake.

The meat certainly had the look and the smell of chicken. I took a bite and it had the taste and texture of real chicken, too. But I was surprised to learn that there wasn’t an ounce of real chicken it. The ‘meat’ was made entirely of plants. And yet, I couldn’t tell the difference.

Many people who have tried meat from here, echo the same thoughts: Fooled me badly in a blind tasting.
This is a revelation! It has a promising future and it will change the course of the food industry.

And being a die hard lover of non-vegetarian food myself, I cannot wait to try this out. 😀
