Members of the film and television fraternity have wholeheartedly condemned the threats against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmavati’ starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. However, celebrities in their passion to condemn the wrong, end up saying things which fail to convey their intentions.
This is exactly what happened to Esha Gupta when she chose to condemn the ban against ‘Padmavati’. Although Esha is known for her unabashed personality, the model-actress had a foot-in-the-mouth moment and netizens did not spare her.
According to a report in Republic, Esha said that people who focus on the film do not want to focus on real issues and that no one says ban this or that when a rape happens.

It did not take long for netizens to take notice of her ridiculous remark and shame her for it. Twitterati were fuming and how!
1. There is no ban on using your brain!
क्योंकि रेप एक क्राइम है इसलिए already बैन है।
Statement देने से पहले बुद्धि का प्रयोग करें।
बुद्धि के प्रयोग पर बैन नहीं है।— indu malhotra (@indumalhotra3) November 30, 2017
2. Calling her silly…
Like it is legal today, how silly can they get?

3. Educate us Esha.
Devi Isha, aisi konsi country hai jaha par RAPE legal hai ? Ab ye bhi bata dijiye.

6. ‘Keep your mouth shut.’
Rape koi censor board se certificate lekar nhi karta hai and na hi voh broadcast hota hai Kahi Jo koi use ban kar de. Rape is a punishable offence and nobody supports it. So please if u can't put brains in what u tell, atleast keep Ur mouth shut.

8. Taking the opportunity to shame the film fraternity as a whole.
Another reason why actors can't be taken seriously and their opinion shouldn't matter in public matters

But, Esha was not one to keep quiet about the slamming and took to Twitter to clarify her stance while shutting down a person who condemned her statement and intelligence.
How does the Hindi movie industry consistently throw up such super intelligent people? https://t.co/BcLybpWBdT

I think see the video aunty. I didnot say “ban rape”, I said why doesn’t anyone raise a voice when a woman is stripped of her existence. But people like you are infact blaming the actress of the film. Why is she being targeted? But it’s ok, get ur 2 mins of fame aunty. https://t.co/uGO8aaEVuK

While Esha has a right to an opinion, her words are being construed in a way that has left people enraged. Is this the result of another case of sensationalised headline by the media or a genuine foot-in-the-mouth moment? You be the judge.
