Emmys Did A ‘Chopa’, Mispronounced PC’s Name But She Handled It Gracefully!

Priyanka-Chopra-Chopa-Emmys

You have heard Priyanka Chopra’s name on many stages, nationally and internationally. And, when the crowd hears Priyanka Chop-ruh, they immediately go in a tizzy. Well, that’s PC’s magic. But often. when desis go abroad, the major goof-up people do is mispronounce our desi names.

Priyanka looked like a dream in that embellished Balmain gown with fur mermaid tail at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards. Before she took the stage to present the award for Variety Talk series with Black-ish star Anthony Anderson (which went to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver), the mandatory announcement to invite them on stage saw a bit of a flub.

The announcer, Jermaine Fowler of CBS’ Superior Donuts, made a chopa. While he pronounced Anthony’s name perfect to the T, Fowler forgot the ‘r’ in Chopra and invited Priyanka Chopa on stage. Hain? #Facepalm

PC might’ve not noticed that, or maybe she did. But she didn’t lose her sense of humour and shared a “sleeping together” joke with Anderson.

Of course, PC’s army caught that and the fans were not-so-happy with it.

1. Huh? Choppa? Wut?

2. People showed their dismay over it.

3. Some took the talk offline and then online.

4. This guy tried to correct the ‘R’ in the Chopra but forgot the ‘Y’ in Priyanka. :/

5. Oooh! Fam-exclaim!

6. Well, this too.

7. Yikes, truly!

But then, it is fine, we guess. Like, it was a slip of an ‘r’.

PC was seen having fun backstage after the gig was done.

Maybe next time, PC should do what Aishwarya does when she takes the international stage – Ash phonetically breaks down her name for the announcers. But, Pree-yan-ka Chop-ruh is easy to pronounce too, right? 😉
