Girls From Villages With No Power Are Aiming To Become Professional Electricians. #Kudos

Women are breaking barriers everywhere, in every field and in every way.

The greatest example of that could be these young women who came from remote villages in Maharashtra where electricity hasn’t quite reached properly, to become electricians, which is largely a male dominated profession,  at the ITI institute in Thane.

None of them had ever seen an oven or a washing machine, but what they had seen is hope in the future for themselves and the hunger to learn.

“Initially, my mother was worried about letting me study to become an electrician, but I convinced her. I had never seen a washing machine or a microwave, I was fascinated with these appliances and wanted to know how they work.”

Said Jyoti Baviskar who wanted a B com degree, but money stopped her, who hails from Bhusaval a little place in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra residing on the banks of the Tapi river.

ITI a government institute which concentrates on giving technical knowledge to kids of the underprivileged society and find a higher purpose for their skills, has seen very few girls to have opted for a life of an electrician.

Although, there are thousand other options like fashion designing and beauty parlour training which are touted as a more feminine option for a girl of meagre means to earning a life for herself.

The girls opting for this course will have a 2-month training session at TATA power units in Varap, and then a year of apprenticeship with a company after they finish the training and the course.

The institute is also thinking of starting virtual classes to reach out to a larger audience with dreams larger than what their pocket can afford.

Way to go girls! Keep making us proud. 😀
