Dutee Chand Becomes 1st Indian Woman In 36 Years To Secure A Place In 100m At Rio Olympics!

Indian sport saw yet another proud moment when Indian sprinter, Dutee Chand sealed her spot in the 2016, Rio Olympics on Saturday.

It will be the first time in 36 years that an Indian sprinter would be representing the country at the Olympics in 100 meter race. The last sprinter who has made to the Olympics was PT Usha in the Moscow Olympics in 1980.

She had missed the qualified earlier in April by one hundredth of a second but she had claimed that the lack of support on the government’s part as far as training is concerned had cost her the qualifier. An elated Dutee said, “I will not let anyone down at the Olympics.”

She will be representing India in women’s 100 meter race in the Olympics after nailing the 100 meters in Almaty, Kazakhsta under with an incredible 11:30s in her clock.

 “I am really happy at the moment. It has been a tough year for me and I am so happy that my coach Ramesh sir’s and my hard work has paid off. “

She is one of the 99 Indian athletes who would be taking part in the Rio Olympics and the twitter universe has been more than generous with their appreciation to this commendable feat achieved by her.
