A 42 year old woman named Shivani Bali was stopped at Bandra Reclamation by the traffic police at nakabandi when she was returning from a party in Kharghar. After being spotted, she locked herself in the car and started smoking cigarettes. The Worli resident was asked to give the breathalyser test which confirmed police’s suspicion of her being sloshed.

When she was asked to step out of the car, she locked the gates and drove away. Police chased her and managed to stop the vehicle but Bali didn’t open the door. She started abusing the police and threatened that she would get all of them suspended. When police didn’t stop trying, she put on loud music and continued to smoke cigarettes. She kept herself locked for over two hours because of which police had to call an expert to open the car door in order to avoid suffocation.

Finally, the car was opened and Shivani Bali got arrested after which she was taken to Bandra police station to be booked under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicle was seized along with the documents and licence and she was charged with fine of Rs 2,000. She was supposed to be present in court yesterday but she didn’t show up.

Pradeep Chavan, Senior PI, Bandra Traffic division said, “We are going to send her a summons after she failed to appear before the court today (Tuesday). She has been booked under Section 185 (drunken driving or driving under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act and Section 110 (pertaining to indecent behaviour) of the Bombay Police Act.”
