Down Syndrome Couple Celebrating 22 Years Of Marriage Silences Haters Who Doubted Their Love

Love is a strange and wonderful feeling. It blossoms unexpectedly and engulfs you entirely. There is music in the air, emotions run wild and everything in the world is a little more beautiful. It knows no religion, no ethnicity, no nationality. You don’t decide whom to fall in love with or whom somebody should love. Love happens and nothing can stop it.

The story of this couple is a testament to the fact that love conquers all.

Maryanne and Tommy Pilling, both suffering from Down’s Syndrome, tied the knot back in 1995 and were the first such couple to do so.

The couple dated for around 18 months before Tommy finally popped the question.

Lindi Newman, the sister of Maryanne has been documenting the couple’s romance on social media and has garnered thousands of followers.

“(Tommy) approached my mum to ask if he could propose. He had a toy ring from a vending machine. My mum immediately said yes but wanted them to do it properly so took him to a jewellery shop to buy a proper ring.”

The mother said yes but received a lot of flak for allowing the couple to get married.

However, she paid no heed to it and was extremely happy that her daughter found someone.

It’s been 22 years to their wedding and the couple is as strong as ever.

Their love story is just further proof that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, love can make all the difference.

Take that, doubters!

Love is an unbiased feeling. You don’t decide whom you fall in love with and you certainly have no right to make that decision for someone else.

Love… and let love.
