Doordarshan Is All Set To Revive 5 Classic TV Shows From The 80s And We’re Super Excited!

Before Ramesh Sippy made the evergreen ‘Sholay’, before Alok Nath became the authority on all things Sankari and before SRK became the king of Bollywood, these powerhouses of talent were a part of numerous TV shows which aired on Doordarshan in the 80s. Most millennials would’ve loved to see the work of these iconic individuals in their early days in the entertainment industry.

Fortunately, now you can!

Doordarshan is all set to revive 5 of these classic TV shows and we’re super excited!

1. Circus

This 80s classic was a TV drama about the everyday life of a circus troupe. The show starred SRK as a Malayalee owner of the circus troupe and also had other prominent celebrities like Ashutosh Gowariker.

 

2. Wagle ki Duniya

This was another classic which revolved around the everyday struggles of a nervous sales clerk, Srinivas Wagle. The show was based on characters created by revered writer and cartoonist RK Laxman.

 

3. Malgudi Days

Even if you weren’t an 80s kid, most of you must have at least heard of this beautiful series which was based on stories by RK Narayanan. The story centred around a little boy, Swami and his friends who hated going to school and whiled away their time on the streets of Malgudi.

 

4. Buniyaad

This was an intense drama series directed by ‘Sholay’ director Ramesh Sippy and starred the king of Sankar, Alok Nath, with a head full of hair. The show was set around the time of the 1947 partition and first aired in 1986.

 

5. Hum Log

This was a tale of a typical middle-class family in the 80s. The series revolved around their dreams, aspirations and daily struggles in life. The show was an instant hit due to its instant connect with the audience. Even today, the audience could relate to most of the simple hardships shown in the series.
