Domestic Abuse Survivor Marries The Man Who Saved Her And It’ll Restore Your Faith In Love

“Life and love after abuse is possible.”

Melissa Dohme, a resident of Florida, was a victim of a horrible incident of domestic abuse. Her ex-boyfriend Robert Lee Burton Jr. assaulted her in a brutal way.

By the end of the assault, Melissa Dohme was left with 32 stab wounds. Her face was unrecognisable and her whole body was drenched in blood.

Bystanders outside her home called the emergency number 911 and the ambulance arrived just in time. Melissa was barely alive.

Paramedic Cameron Hill was the first person on the scene. On the way to the hospital, Melissa’s breathing stopped multiple times. Cameron resuscitated her all those times to keep her alive.

According to Cameron, Melissa was drenched in so much blood that –

“You couldn’t tell she was blonde.”

Due to Cameron’s intensive care in the ambulance, she did survive.

Melissa spent months in intensive recovery. She was so brutally abused that she had to learn how to speak again by undergoing speech therapy. But through determination, she did fully recover from the injuries.

After Melissa recovered, she went to paramedic Cameron to thank him for keeping her alive. Love struck both of them and they started dating in two months.

“When I look back on that night, I can’t think of it as all bad anymore because I met Cameron.”

And in a true spectacular style, Cameron proposed to Melissa three years later in the middle of a baseball match, on the pitch, in front of thousands of people.

And two years later, they got married.

Three weeks ago, they had a beautiful wedding where 200 guests, including the first responders to the crime scene, gave their blessings to the couple.

Melissa’s story is proof that women can indeed have a productive life even after horrible abuse. That abused women can indeed find love again.

In her own words –

“Life and love after abuse is possible.”
