‘Overwhelmingly Grateful’ Dev Patel Is The 3rd Actor Of Indian Descent To Bag An Oscar Nod!

After his Golden Globe nod, Dev Patel is on cloud nine right now. The British actor, of Indian origin, just bagged an Academy Awards Nomination for ‘Lion’ in the supporting actor category.

This is Dev’s first Oscar nomination, though he’s been to the Oscars for Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2009.

And with that, he’s become the third actor of Indian origin to be nominated at the Academys, ever.

‘The Dark Angel’ star Merle Oberon – who was desi, part Sri Lankan, part Irish, born in Bombay and brought up in Calcutta – was the first nominee in 1935. Following that was Ben Kingsley, who has had four nominations so far and had won Best Actor for ‘Gandhi’ in 1983.

“I’m sitting here with my mouth wide open figuring out how this happened. I’m feeling overwhelmingly grateful right now.”

When asked what was his family’s reaction, he added,

“My mum is at work and she was screaming in her office. She’s a wreck and a ball of tears. I keep using the word amazing – I need to figure another word out right now.”

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the ceremony will be aired on February 27 in India.

Well, we are truly excited and hopeful that Dev wins it. Good luck!
