Rs 389 Crore Bihar Dam Collapses 24 Hours Prior To Inauguration. Oh DAM!

The state of affairs in India shocks us where buildings and damns collapse so often. It is as if we have no regard for the human life that could be at stake.  With so much of the taxpayer’s money being spent on taking on these enormous projects, is getting quality infrastructure too much to ask for?

The same can be seen on Wednesday in Bihar when a portion of a dam in Kahalgaon in the Bhagalpur district worth Rs. 389 crores collapsed 24 hours before it was even inaugurated.

The nearby areas are flooded and it is causing havoc in the lives of many.

According to an India Today source the Minister of Water Resources, Lallan Singh said

“The dam broke due to release of water in full capacity. The incident has not caused any damage to the newly constructed part of the project.”

Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar who was supposed to inaugurate the dam, has now canceled his visit.

The dam took 40 years to even be constructed and absolutely no time to break down.

India Today also stated that the water gushed into Kahalgaon and inundated areas in NTPC township as well some civil areas including the residence of the Kahalgaon civil judge and the sub-judge.

Arun Singh, the Principal Secretary of Water department who was supervising efforts to drain out the water from the township said,

“Sand bags are being put to check flow of water”

People are obviously furious with this news and are calling the government out on its blatant corruption.
