Chennai Students’ Video Of Waving Swords, Knives From A Moving Train Goes Viral. Now Arrested.

There’s one thing we all need to collectively agree upon: the youth today is utterly misguided.

Their notions of ‘bravery’ and ‘coolness’ are so tremendously flawed sometimes, that they’re willing to risk their lives for a single act of daredevilry, which they can share on social media and feel good about themselves.

And in this case, there are THREE such acts.

Recently, three videos of boys in Tamil Nadu, brandishing knives, swords, and sickles, and performing deathly stunts while hanging out of moving trains and buses have gone viral.

As can be seen in the video shared by India Today, the boys were standing on the footboards of the train with their weapons, screaming at commuters on the platforms to move aside. Eventually, they got down at one of the stations and even burst firecrackers.

All three videos, two of which seem to be edited with music added, were shared on a Facebook page, the owner of which is a person named Bharathiraja. The videos were posted with a caption that will send a chill down your spine.

“This is how we are, this is how we will be.”

Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that the miscreants, who can be seen  wearing college identity cards around their necks in the videos, belong to one of Chennai’s oldest educational institutions, Pachaiyappa’s College.

What’s more disturbing is the reason why these students were indulging in such death-defying stunts.

When questioned about it, the students quite nonchalantly stated that climbing moving buses is quite usual when they celebrate ‘bus day’. But the authorities had nothing to say about this.

As reported by NDTV, While the police isn’t sure when the videos were shot, they’ve finally arrested four of the students and two others are being questioned about their involvement in the stunts.

Now here’s the difficult part. How do you convince a group of impressionable young men who don’t think they’re doing anything wrong that they are, in fact wrong?

How do you make them realise that in addition to risking their own lives and condemning their families to a lifetime of grief, they might end up causing some innocent bystanders to lose their life too?

Let us hope that necessary steps are taken by the authorities to bring this menace under control. But more importantly, these young individuals should be made to understand the grave error of their ways and rehabilitated accordingly.
