“She’s More Educated Than I Am And Hence She Deserves It”, Golden Words By A Husband In Uttar Pradesh

“She’s More Educated Than I Am And Hence She Deserves It”.

A rarely heard quote coming from a man from one of the most remote villages in India, is nothing but a fresh, positive, modern outlook we often seek out in fellow Indians.

Patriarchy.

We’ve been living in the shadows of this umbrella for a long time. We’ve heard countless stories of brides being burned because of dowry, girls never seeing a school or opening a book all their lives and being subjected to abuse in every form.

But this one is a story about Afroz.

This video, shows us a great story about how far we’ve really come. It’s a story about Afroz. A woman who enjoyed independence in her parents house, only to get married into a family that didn’t treat her like a daughter-in-law, but like a daughter. She didn’t get chained to the kitchen, but got encouraged to become the ‘Pradhan’ of their village Nizampur Malhaur.

Today Afroz stands at a high post, helping people in the village, with no fixed timings and no holds.

It’s 70 years of Independence and finally we can say that India is changing. The liberating story of Afroz reinforces the fact that women can achieve great things if they’re given freedom.

Because she dreamt big, she changed lives and gave them hope for a better future and an assurance for a better today.

From administrating proper midday meals served at school to installing streets lamps on every road to make girls feel safer at night, she has been silently making a dent in the universe, one activity at a time.

This is one Afroz, but there are millions of others in every nook and corner.

There are numerous stories of successful women in rural India and Vim has taken the commendable initiative to showcase one such story. As they rightly put it, #ChangeBeginsAtHome, and when you empower a woman with freedom, then there is no limit to what she can achieve.

Let’s all stand together and make sure we encourage and support every Afroz we meet in your lives.
