After Her Father Refused To Pay For Her Cancer Treatment, 13-Year-Old Girl Succumbed To Death

What happened to the world we live in?

Though we rarely extend a helping hand to someone we know, I never thought it could get worse than that.

When family stops helping family, who will? I would still find it in my heart to consider this case, if it was the extended family in question, but this story has just left me feeling numb. I don’t have words to build up this sickening act for you. So just bear with me and let’s get through this together.

I am talking about a heartless father who had the heart to refuse to help his dying 13-year-old daughter.

Two days back a 13-year-old girl, Sai Sri’s video went viral. Suffering from blood cancer, Sai was literally BEGGING for money from her father for treatment. A father who was perfectly capable of helping his daughter, refused to give her any money.

Sai asked her father to sell their house, which was in her name. Her video was circulated on every social media platform and was run by news channels. The video recorded in Telugu, translated by The News Minute said –

“Daddy. You say that you don’t have money. At least we have this house. Please sell this house and pay for my treatment daddy. Or else, they (doctors) say that I won’t survive for long. Please do something and save me.

I haven’t gone to school in months. I want to play with my friends.

If they complete my treatment, I will happily go back to school. My hands and feet hurt.

I need the treatment. Mother really doesn’t have the money. If you think that she will take your money, then you take me to the hospital, and get me treated.”

Sai’s mother, Suma Sri tried very hard to sell the house, but her husband, Shiva Kumar used his political connections to stop her.

Sai’s mother alleges that MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao was the one who helped Shiva, so that he won’t have to pay for his daughter’s illness.

Sai’s parents separated when she was very young. She lived in Vijayawada with her mother and her father lived in Bengaluru.

Sai’s video moved hundreds of people who came across it. Her sobs, her demeanor, her cry for help moved every heart, except her father’s.

Sai’s plea for help reached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Andhra Pradesh. They got involved to help the grieving mother and Sai. They filed a petition that told Sai’s story.

Suma said that Sai was diagnosed on Aug 27, 2016. She immediately called Sai’s father. Her father asked Suma to bring Sai to Bengaluru. Suma thought that Shiva cared about their daughter. But one day when a sobbing Sai called her mother, Suma knew what she had to do –

“On March 2, she called me and cried. When I asked her what happened, she said that her father was manhandling her and misbehaved with her. I immediately brought her back, and went to the police station.”

The reports say that Suma alleged that Police did not take her case because they were under the influence of MLA Uma.

Sai Sri, the 13-year-old girl lost her battle to cancer, she died on May 14. Her mother broke down and said –

“Today, she (Sri Sai) is dead. She wanted to be a doctor. She would always tell me that.”

Till the end, the father did not help once. The mother alone paid more than 30 lakhs for Sai’s treatment. 10 lakhs were spent in Chemotherapy and she needed 25 lakhs for Sai’s bone marrow transplant.

After SHRC, Andhra Pradesh helped mother Suma and filed a petition, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang assured Suma that he would look into the case and promised to help.

According to the reports, father Shiva and those who helped him, denied the child her right to a life.

I feel rage and I know you do to. I can’t say or write anything that will express the pain little Sai had to bear at the tender age of 13. If anything about this report is true, we hope that all evil perpetrators get punished and little Sai and her mother get justice.
