It is often said that the police is the common man’s friend. However, the stories we read suggest otherwise. If you have missed your papers, the headlines are screeching about police brutality and instances that may seem unreal. Of course, not every travesty makes it to the news but the ones that do are enough to paint a picture that the law-keepers are not public-friendly.

While it’ll be unfair to label all policemen as brutes, there are men in uniform who ruin it for all. Unfortunately, it has happened again and in a way, you wouldn’t imagine.

According to NDTV,  two teenagers met with an accident in UP’s Saharanpur and bled to death on the road because the cops who reached the site stood motionless!

The two boys identified as Arpit Khurana and Sunny reportedly met with an accident on Thursday around midnight when their bike rammed into a pole.

A 3-minute video of the entire episode of police apathy is going viral and it is nerve-chilling, to put it modestly.

The passerby called the police but the cops didn’t rush the boys to the nearest hospital. Why? Because they didn’t want to soil the car seats with blood. “They are also somebody’s children,” requested an acquaintance but one of the cops retorted saying,

By the time another vehicle from the local police station reached, it was too late and the two boys were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Ironically, in 2016, the Uttar Pradesh government had implemented a statewide system of police patrolling through a project called ‘Dial 100’ that gave the police more vehicles for prompt action.

Saharanpur city police chief Prabal Pratap Singh, after learning of the shocking video said,

“Our men allegedly refused to get medical help. A video is viral. Prima facie, it seems the allegations are true.

The policemen have been suspended and further action will be taken after an inquiry.”‘

If you have the heart, you can watch the video here. [WARNING: Video is graphic]

Several pleads and requests but all of them fell on deaf ears as the policemen were unmoved. Are these the people who are entrusted with our safety? Are these the men we look up to for help? The answer frightens me.
