Women’s safety is not just a cry in India but a global problem that needs urgent attention. Although news of abuse and molestation never leave the headlines, there is still hope that we will curb the social evil right where it needs to be.

Not long ago, we celebrated and rooted for singer, Atif Aslam for the same when he stopped his concert midway to rescue a girl from being harassed. While such acts need to be appreciated and acknowledge, the fact remains that truth can be very deceiving at times!

According to a report in Daily Pakistan, the boy who Atif reprimanded for misdemeanour has come out in open, alleging that he was the actual victim of mob-thrashing and violence. And that he paid the price for doing his job of managing the security at the concert.

“My job was to ensure that nobody crosses over from the non-VIP section to the VIP section without a valid ticket. I saw two girls accompanied by a guy crossing over from the non-VIP section and forcing their way to the front row, like a lot of other people were also doing. There was a lot of rush in the front of the stage and these people were continuing to push through. I confronted these people and politely asked them to either show their VIP pass or go back to their own section, which they refused.”

“That is when these girls started getting violent. They started scratching at my neck and face with their long nails, they slapped me on the face, punched me and incited a whole mob against me. It was exactly at this point, Atif Aslam saw us.”

The boy, a student of IBA told his ordeal to Daily Pakistan on condition of anonymity.

He has also gone ahead and criticised Atif for blaming him without any proof and understanding of the situation.

“Instead of trying to understand the real story, Atif Aslam blamed me, the actual victim. When Atif Aslam said ‘rescue these girls,’ everyone thought I was molesting them and a huge mob started beating me up for no reason. I have never been beaten so badly in my entire life, and that too for just doing my job.”

In fact, he has also raised a point about male-bashing, in adherence to his interview with Daily Pakistan, that cannot be missed. He also condemned the girls calling them ‘rude’.

“Nobody listens to men in our society especially when a woman has said anything against him it doesn’t matter true or false.”

However, according to university (IBA) policies, the authorities decided not to go public with the incident while an investigation is underway.

Whatever was the incident, we can only hope that the truth comes out in the open. And soon.
