8 Books That Would Be Fantastic As Bollywood Movies!

Most readers prefer reading a book to watching the movie adaptations. However, adaptations like The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Kai Po Che, Devdas and several others prove that the visual aids have a huge effect and reach the masses easily! While reading a few books, you often have the image of a star who could play the character or the kind of set that could be created. And some of them I believe, should definitely be made in Bollywood!

1.  Anna Karenina

The classic story of doomed love by Leo Tolstoy! A world filled with aristocrats and a morally binding society, what story could better be told in Bollywood than this?! The passionate love affair of Anna and Vronsky is amazing and heart-breaking at the same time. The kind of passion that engulfs one and leads to isolation. And I don’t think anyone can play the couple better than Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh! If made in Bollywood, it’ll surely be a treat for romance lovers. And keeping in mind Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forte of creating high-on-grandeur sets, he would be the ideal maker of the movie.

2. The God Of Small Things

Although stated by Arundhati Roy, the author, that she would never sell the rights for a film adaptation, it is one story that I believe should definitely be made in Bollywood. Revolving around the lives of Estha and Rahel, the story captures the Keralite Syrian Christian way of life and brings out the problems of communism and the caste system, a much-needed topic for discussion. The script should definitely be written by Roy herself because no one can possibly do justice to it more than her!

3. Anthem

One of Ayn Rand’s classic novels that describes a dystopian society where the word ‘I’ is lost. The world where collectivism is survival and individualism is tabooed; where there is nothing like man’s will! This surely would make an amazing story for Bollywood that glorifies man’s individual worth. And no one could portray Equality 7-2521 better than Farhan Akhtar – the man of many talents and “The Golden One” better than Aditi Rao Hydari – the feminine beauty who radiates strength!

4. To Kill A Mockingbird

The Robert Mulligan directed adaptation of Harper Lee’s ‘To kill a mockingbird’ is probably one of the finest ever made! It would be a crime to remake a movie that wouldn’t do justice to it. But it’s a story worth telling and Bollywood needs stories like these! The young protagonists, Scout and Jem would be a delight to watch if played by Diya Chalwad and Naman Jain!

5. Julius Caesar

The classic Shakespearean tragedy that involves political betrayal. This is one work of Shakespeare that should definitely be made in Bollywood and Vishal Bharadwaj is the man who can do it better than anyone! And the cast he touches will turn the movie into gold, I bet.

6. Where Rainbows End

One of the cutest romance stories by the P.S.I love you author Cecelia Ahern that I have ever read! It might amaze you that the book is completely written as a correspondence so it leaves me confused how it could be made into a movie. But I have no doubt Karan Johar is the man who can make awesome “she-is-destined-for-him” movies!!

7. Tell Me Your Dreams

One of Sidney Sheldon’s best books that would make a great thriller movie. It is the story of three women who are strikingly different from each other and know absolutely nothing about the other until linked by a murder investigation. And Aparichit is one movie adapted from it. However, it would be so amazing if we can see a female lead in it. And honestly, after watching Phobia, I can’t seem to imagine anyone other than Radhika Apte playing the protagonist!

8. Tuesdays With Morrie

This is one of the most thought-provoking books I read as a young adult. I think it would be the kind of movie that people these days have started accepting in Bollywood, conversation and philosophy-filled. Catching up with the mentor in his last days and learning the simple lessons of life through him; it is truly heart-warming and beautiful. Naseeruddin Shah is the man who can play Morrie and do him justice.

Wouldn’t we all love to watch Bollywood make these brilliantly written books into movies?!
