There’s a new way to prevent cancer.
There’s also a new way not to die in an accident.
It’s very simple indeed- Don’t commit sins. Else, ‘divine justice’ will dawn upon you and you’ll die a sorry soul.
Before you start thrashing me, these aren’t my thoughts or views. But Assam’s Health and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma believes that sins committed by your parents can get your cancer.
The incident occurred on 21 November, Tuesday, when the Health and Education Minister was addressing high school teachers and went on a tangent giving them knowledge about how divine justice causes cancer and accidents.
As reported by DY 365, elaborating his stance on the subject he said,
“When you look at their background you’ll know that it’s divine justice. Maybe the son hasn’t committed a sin but the father has, the divine justice will always catch up to you. Nobody can escape divine justice.”
He further reiterated that the teachers should not skip classes of the younger children otherwise they would be subjected to God’s wrath.
DY 365, also got in touch with Doctor Nabhaneel Barua who expressed surprise over such remarks from a PhD holder minister, who is responsible for the health and education of the state. He said,
“If he is able to propagate such a mindset he must believe it himself. An influential and responsible minister promoting such an irresponsible ideal is a sad day for the nation.”
With his outrageous statement, Himanta Biswa Sarma has certainly made a mockery out of a disease which has claimed numerous lives. He owes an apology to not only the medical community but also to people who have lost their loved ones to cancer or to accidents, not because they were sinners in a previous life.

And this coming from a PhD degree holder and a Health Minister (oh! the irony) is extremely disappointing.
