12 Perks Of Owning A Bike That A Car Just Cannot Beat!

There is a different spirit in riding a bike, the one that the four wheels of a car cannot provide.

Sure cars have a luxury feel attached to them, but bikes have a life. They have the skills to take you to unexplored places. They demand little and return beyond expectations. Bikes are like a silent companion in the journey of your life. Isn’t it what most of us seek from people?

And when it comes to choosing one between a car and a bike, it is often the latter. Owning a bike has several perks, that only a true bike lover can understand.

1. Beat the traffic

In a traffic jam, a car ends up last in the queue. However, a motorbike smoothly slides ahead from the end and takes up the lead in front. It can be conveniently turned, quickly stopped, easily controlled. Therefore saving up a lot of time that is otherwise wasted in commutation while traveling through cars.

2. They don’t burn a hole in your pocket

Primarily, bikes are cheaper than cars. Until and unless you are deciding to buy between a high-class sports bike and an average four-wheeler, most bikes cost much lesser than cars. Secondarily, bikes have a better mileage. They can run on the road for a long distance unlike cars which require you to stop more frequently. (Reminds me of the advertisement with the song, “Dunia jaye tel lene, jane do na…”)

3. You get to experience the classic Bollywood romance

You get to experience the scene from the film ‘Rockstar,’ with Ranbir Kapoor driving the bike, Nargis Fakri sitting behind with her arms around him and the breathtaking valleys around them. For a true fan of bikes, this would be better than going to a 5-star restaurant for an expensive meal. The feeling of having her cheek on your shoulder and the thrill of riding a bike (that might as well grow wings and fly away) is unbeaten by a car!

4. The chance to perform stunts

Almost all boys have tried to do one or the other bike stunt at some point in their lives. Wheeley, stoppey, drift and what not have been in their dictionary since they rode the bike for the first time and fell in love with it. Sure it is dangerous, but what pleasure can all the so called safe things give you?

5. Slide. Tilt. Fit right in.

See that’s the thing about bikes that cars can really never beat – Space Conservation! While cars take immense space for a safe parking, three bikes can comfortably fit in the place of a car. It rarely gets towed because it is easy to park and you can get a lot done roaming around town on a bike as compared to in a car which takes a lot of resources as well as time.

6. Bikes give you the adrenaline rush

Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window. The feeling of wind striking against you is better than air conditioning. Those butterflies in the stomach when you are riding down a slope and the ‘bike-orgasm’ that runs through your body when you put the bike on a full throttle is priceless.

7. You get to dress up (really) good

Imagine yourself in cool gears, armored gloves, swooshy helmet, outrageous leather pants and big metal boots. You’d look like a real jerk dressing like that without a bike. Hence bikes are better than cars, because you get to wear really cool stuff.

8. Higher resale value

The demand for a second hand bike is always there in the market. Since bikes are very easy to maintain and have lower costs of repair and servicing, they are offered higher value for resale than compared to cars.

9. A true riders favorite hobby – Helmet singing

You must have heard of bathroom singers, the ones who sing in the shower so that no one can hear them. Now get introduced to the helmet singers. Their helmet is their small little world. It’s like Professor Charles Xavier’s cerebrum (from the movie X-Men) for them. A safe space for their thoughts to unfold and evolve into plans. A place where they can think out loud and sing to themselves without having to give a damn to the world. Well, you can’t wear a helmet in a car, can you?

10. Reduced carbon footprints

As per studies, the carbon emission from bikes is much lesser compared to the carbon emission from cars. Since we are anyway running on the leftovers of already extinct dead animals (dinosaurs, duh!), we might try and save the ones that are still alive.

11. Bikes are low maintenance

Bikes are much easier to maintain as compared to cars. They are more economical when it comes to repairing and servicing. The accessories and additional gadgets required by a bike are also cheaper than the ones required for cars. Cars require essential servicing frequently while bikes are rugged and can run along for a while without throwing tantrums.

12. It is COOL!

It might sound childish and immature, but the truth is the truth. Bike runs more on the basis of smiles per mile than fuel. When a girl rides a nice bike around, guys drool. When a guy makes his entry on a classy bike, most girls can’t take their eyes off him. And it is not shallow, not at all. It is about someone having that wild spirit as you are. Not caring about the storm, not caring about the luggage, but just going with the flow.

13. And finally, nobody ever asks on a bike ride, “Are we there yet?”

So hop on your bike and ride on, because life is too short for traffic.
