Being a hardcore science fiction lover, it’s sometimes hard for me to come out of that world and into reality. The actual world just doesn’t compare to the fantasy land I’ve ventured into in reel life.
However, all that is changing. With technology advancing, all the make-believe things are now being incorporated into our actual lives.
One such example is the new Beijing airport. The airport really is every sci-fi lover’s dream come true and is tipped to be the world’s largest airport. It is all set to start functioning from October 2019 onwards.
According to Xinhua, the airport engineering projects will be finished in July 2019, and the test operation will start three months later.
The new airport will be located 46 km south of downtown Beijing. This will be done to take some pressure off the over-crowded Beijing Capital International Airport.
The construction of the sprawling airport began back in December 2014. The estimated cost of the airport is 80 billion yuan which is whopping 78,500 crores INR (approx) according to Indian Express.
The airport terminal building will be covering an area of 313,000 square meters. It is also said to have a centrepiece and five arms resembling a phoenix spreading its wings.

The airport is to have four runways and can accommodate 620,000 flights per year. The capacity of the airport is supposed to be of 100 million passengers and 4 million tonnes of cargo and mail each year, in the long run.
It is also supposed to a sight to behold with gardens and ornate landscaping. The areas for both domestic and international passengers are also supposed to be separate.

I don’t know about you but once the airport is ready, Beijing is going to be the first trip I take (and I’d be happy with just seeing the airport and coming back).
