Barkha Dutt Dedicates Asian TV Award To Trolls In A Fashion We Call WINNING!

Trolls

Barkha Dutt, whether you like it or not, is a lady of opinion. As a journalist of the contemporary times, she is never shy of voicing her questions. However, with the booming social media, she has also found herself in the red book of online trolls and haters.

Not once, not twice but innumerable are the occasions when the hoi polloi didn’t wait to denounce her the as ‘pseudo secularist’, they love to hate!

But, the tables have turned. Or so Barkha, says. After winning the Best News Programme in the Asian Television Award for her show, ‘The Buck Stops Here’ for the coverage of Pathankot terror attacks, the columnist took to Facebook and dedicated the award to her trolls in the quirkiest fashion, we call WINNING! The trophy came home ! Images from the Asian Television Award for my show Buck Stops Here which was recognised as the Best News Programme in Singapore for the work my team and I did while ground reporting on the Pathankot terror attacks. It remains extremely satisfying that our most high-profile international awards have been not for jibber-jabber but for old fashioned Journalism and reporting from tough conflict zones and areas of tension. Especially satisfying because these days when I am on travels to the border and the line of control or when i cover terror strikes like Pathankot there are so many inane attempts at smear campaigns online -an effort to intimidate really- and I can take many things but will NEVER accept any attempt at intimidation, bullying and silencing-which is what a lot of the Twitter crap is insidiously about. I dedicated this one to my trolls haha!!
