‘The best protection any woman can have…is courage.’
Eve-teasing is one of the biggest problems in Indian society. But most women are afraid to fight back. But this story is different.
Remi Rusha Sen, a 25-year-old senior executive for J W Marriott, was walking home from work in the evening when suddenly a stranger who was passing in an auto grabbed her backside and apparently tried to pull her skirt down.
Wasting no time, she immediately caught hold of an auto and chased the man, who was drunk, for half a kilometre before apprehending him in front of the Navnit Motors on Lavelle Road.
Her screams attracted the attention of some passer-by who gathered at the spot. Her colleague informed the Cubbon Park Police who arrived in no time and arrested the pervert.
This is what she told the Bangalore Mirror:
“I called my F&B director, Jolly, and told him what happened. He then called the police and all of them rushed to the spot to help. There was a strong stench  of alcohol emanating from the pervert, and he began pleading for mercy claiming he hailed from a good family, and was married with children, but I refused to listen.”
“The police were very cooperative and encouraging of my actions. They said most victims of eve-teasing did not stand up for themselves, whereas apprehending the pervert and filing a complaint would send out a strong message. Police are also collecting CCTV footage from the camera installed at the exit gate of UB City as evidence; and the pervert was produced in front of a magistrate on Thursday and sent to prison.”
“If this can happen to someone just crossing the road home from their workplace on a busy street like Vittal Mallya Road, I shudder to imagine what could happen anywhere else. I’m grateful that the police reacted instantly.”
Rusha, who is originally from Kolkata, has been a resident of Bengaluru for the past 10 years, but this was the first time she experienced such kind of a behaviour in the most sought out city for professionals.
She truly deserves our respect for standing up against a pervert and actually giving him a fitting response.
