Just when I had lost all hope in the frail world that somehow disappoints its women every damn time, a flicker of light has emerged and it has not only rekindled my dying spirit but has lifted up every woman who was once written off just because she wears a skirt.
I know that was one long sentence but I couldn’t help myself.
No, this is not another article about forced gender binaries but a long-due pat at the back of India’s daughter, Avani Chaturvedi who has made history by becoming the 1st Indian woman to fly a fighter jet solo.
#TouchTheSkyWithGlory : Fg Offr Avani Chaturvedi became the first Indian Woman to fly a fighter aircraft solo, when on 19 Feb 18 she flew a MiG-21 Bison aircraft in her first solo flight. The photo attached has been taken after her solo sortie. pic.twitter.com/nHWe4sgSmi

She etched her name in golden ink on Monday when she flew a MiG-21 Bison–which has the highest landing and take-off speed in the world–in her first training solo sortie. What’s better? She flew it for 30 minutes in Gujarat’s Jamnagar airbase.
If you’re not in the know, the MP-born pilot was commissioned as a flying officer in July 2016 along with Bhawana Kamath and Mohana Singh.

The 24-year-old pilot who completed her training at Hyderabad Air ForAcademy was always inspired by NASA astronaut late Kalpana Chawla and honestly, we can see how! She has also taken after her brother her brother who is a Lieutenant in the Indian Army and is serving the nation.
She is currently posted at No. 23 Squadron (Panthers) and her feat has put India on the global list of countries such as the United States, Israel, Britain and Pakistan, where women fly fighter jets.
Needless to say, the Internet is beaming with pride and sending good wishes her way.
