Director Confirms Arya Or Sansa Could Die Next On Game of Thrones. We’re Screaming, ‘Nooo!’

A lot is happening, right now, on our favourite fantasy drama series, Game of Thrones. Besides battling the dead, a dying dragon, a major love story in making, and the power-play to take the Iron Throne, there are many parallel plots and subplots.

One of the many questions we have after watching the sixth episode is – What the heck is up with Sansa and Arya?

Like, you can see the tension brewing between the two united-after-real-long sisters. But they are behaving real odd with each other. And, sneaky-little Littlefinger has been playing them both up, pitting them against each other.

In the last episode, the dialogue between Sansa and Arya in her chambers was pretty cold too. The exchange gave us goosebumps and we lost chill when Arya suggested she could be Sansa and all she has to do is carve her face out (while holding a dagger).

Will Arya do that? Was that a coded signal? Are the two on the same side? Will anyone of them die soon?

The last question has been playing up on our minds constantly and then we chanced upon an interview on the Huffington Post that confirmed it. The episode’s director Alan Taylor hinted that either one could die.

“I think both characters have been through absolute hell since the death of their father in very different ways, and have turned into absolute lethal individuals. We’re very aware of how lethal Arya is, because she’s displayed it over and over again. But I love the fact that the tables do turn back and forth between them; it really is a shifting back and forth of power between them in those scenes we had. And when Sophie says she won the Battle of the Bastards, she’s right.

I love the fact that these two come back, they’re both lethal, and I just wanted to give the impression, as much as possible, that one of them is going to die. But you’re not sure which one.

Whaaatttttt???? :O

He then continues and says,

“Arya is certainly lethal and sort of threatening, but when Sansa sends Brienne away, who is Arya’s natural protector, something is coming very soon between them, and it will be violent but surprising.”

Dayam, mehn! This is so chilly.

That’s not it. He also slipped in that it was during season one, Alan realised that all the events were leading up to Jon and Dany’s partnership. In words of George R.R. Martin, that was the whole point.

Jon-Dany

“The revelation for me ― and I’ve said this before ― is that when we were doing Season 1, and no one really knew what we were dealing with, and no one knew where it was going, George R.R. (Martin) came to visit us on set in Malta, and he let slip that really, the story was about Dany and Jon Snow.

And I was surprised by that because we all thought, well, who knows. Ned Stark’s (warden) now, and maybe Robb will be (warden) after him, and we didn’t know where the story was going. So, in his mind, it was always coming down to this partnership. And so, I was glad that I got to take them a big step forward in terms of Dany saving Jon’s life and Jon bending the knee.”

To those rooting for Jon and Dany, be rest assured that partnership is surely on the table. Woah!

But getting back to Arya and Sansa, we really can’t see one of them dying.
