Jayalalitha was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the second consecutive term and her list of promises are…heavy!

Amma announced 8 grams of gold for married women (Earlier, it was 4 grams of gold). Not only that, women will also get a monetary assistance of Rs 25,000 to Rs 80,000.

These women are beneficiaries under the Thallikku Thangam Scheme.

The scheme allows the women who fall under BPL category to get 8 grams of gold so that they get married happily.

You’d be amazed to know that 2020 tons of gold was procured for this scheme when it was launched.

When she announced this scheme, people talked ill of her but when she stood by her promise, she gained a huge fan base.

Not only that, she also waivered the crop loan which would mean her government paying a huge amount of Rs 5780 crore.

In addition to that, she also decreased the working hours of state-run Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor outlets.

The shops will be opened from 12 noon to 10 PM instead of the 12 hours duration.

Considering the fact that 10 gram of gold costs approximately Rs 28,000/-, I can only imagine the happiness of BPL families.
